18-Year NHL Veteran and Former San Jose Sharks Captain Calls it a Career

Pavelski Retiring After Game 6 Loss in Western Conference Finals

Dallas Stars veteran Joe Pavelski announced that Sunday's Game 6 Western Conference Finals elimination loss will mark the last game of his 18-year NHL career. The 39-year-old Pavelski, who was born in Plover, Wisconsin, was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the seventh round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Pavelski played 18 seasons in the NHL, spending the majority of his career with the San Jose Sharks. He served as the Sharks' captain for six seasons before being traded to the Dallas Stars in 2019. Pavelski is a three-time All-Star and has represented the United States at the Olympics and World Championships.

In his 18 NHL seasons, Pavelski has played in 1,118 regular season games, scoring 355 goals and 414 assists for 769 points. He has also played in 145 playoff games, scoring 48 goals and 55 assists for 103 points.
